Why is Hemingway Editor Plus a subscription?

While the Hemingway Editor can highlight text on your computer, the Hemingway Editor Plus can actually fix them using AI. This cloud-based AI helps you save time and spark fresh ideas. That AI magic requires an ongoing cost, but makes up for it with huge time savings for you.

How is Hemingway Editor Plus different than the free version?

The free version of Hemingway scores the readability of your writing, so you know how you're doing. It also identifies issues that make your writing less clear: wordy sentences, passive voice, words with simpler alternatives, and so on.

The paid version, Hemingway Editor Plus, is a subscription that adds the ability to have AI help you improve your writing. It features an advanced grammar checker that will find and fix even the trickiest issues. You can also use the AI to fix wordy sentences or change their style and tone. Editor Plus saves you time and tedium while editing and can generate new ways to improve your writing you wouldn't have thought of.

How do the AI sentence credits work on Editor Plus?

Hemingway Editor Plus comes with an allotment of “AI sentences” each month. Each time you use the AI to generate a rewrite of one of your sentences, you use up one of these credits.

Hemingway Editor Plus has two ways of using AI sentence credits: rewriting a single sentence and rewriting multiple sentences at a time.

If you click on a sentence that is highlighted red, yellow, or green and use the AI to generate a suggested fix, that's one credit.

Similarly, you can highlight multiple sentences and fix them all at once. If you highlight a paragraph with four sentences and use one of the AI tools in the toolbar, you'll use four sentence credits.

The AI sentence credits are not used for grammar fixes, which are unlimited (unless you are spamming us with a bot).

Should I choose a monthly or annual plan?

To lock in a nearly 17% discount, choose the annual plan. It costs $100 upfront for the year, which is essentially $8.33 per month. On the annual plan, you still get 5,000 AI sentences per month. Your annual plan renews each year unless you cancel.

If you would rather have more flexibility to cancel at the end of any given month, you can choose the monthly option. With the monthly plan, you pay a bit more per month ($10).

How does the Team Plan work on Hemingway Editor Plus?

The Team Plan allows you and your colleagues to each use Hemingway's AI, but pay a single bill each month or year. The team plan also gives each user 10,000 AI sentences to use per month. You can invite colleagues to your team from the "Team" page, linked from the menu in the top right of the app.

How do I cancel my Hemingway Editor Plus trial?

No action is needed. All Hemingway Editor Plus trials will end on their own, without charging you, after the 2-week trial period has ended. The only way to be charged for Hemingway Editor Plus is if you elect to sign up for a paid plan and enter your payment information.
